It is important for you to follow all guidelines and directions provided before surgery to prevent a delay or cancellation of your surgery. You will receive a call from our clinical team to review individualized instructions.
Food and Drink
The night before your surgery, you may eat a light meal before 11:00 P.M. Do NOT DRINK OR EAT anything after midnight – not even coffee or water. You may brush your teeth; however, do not swallow anything.
You may be instructed to take some of your medications the morning before you arrive for surgery. If you are instructed to take any mediations, do not drink more than a few tablespoons of water and be sure to tell the nursing team what you drank when you arrive.
Alcohol
Do not drink alcohol for a least 24 hours before you arrive at the center. Your physician may provide additional instructions to facilitate post operative healing
Smoking/Tobacco
No smoking/tobacco for at least 24 hours prior to your surgery. Your physician may provide additional instructions to facilitate post operative healing.
Makeup, Nail Polish, Jewely (including body jewelry)
Please remove all makeup and jewelry before you arrive for surgery.
Please remove your nail polish from the forefinger of each hand.
Clothing
Wear loose, casual, comfortable clothing to fit over dressings.
Valuables
Please leave all valuables at home unless you are required to bring your co-pay or deductible.
Bring on the Day of Surgery:
- Information: Insurance cards, photo ID, Medicare or Medical Assistant information, numbers and addresses and a form of payment (if required)
- Driver: You are required to have someone drive you home. Do Not plan to use taxis, LYFT/UBER, or other public transportation unless you have someone with you and it is pre-approved by your physician and the clinical team of Star Surgery Center.
- Escort: A friend, relative or dedicated caregiver should stay with you for 24 hours after surgery.
- Legal Guardian: A legal guardian must always be at the center for dependent adults.
- Care for Children: Please make arrangements for someone to care for your children while at the surgery center. We definitely understand that family is an important part of the overall surgical experience, the center is not equipped for children visitors.
- Interpreter: If you, the patient, cannot speak English or uses sign language, an interpreter is required. You should let us know the language or method of communication that you prefer to use. Please advise a member of our team prior to the date of surgery if you need an interpreter.
